Specialty finishes give many more options for product diversity today. Finishes that provide stain repellency, stain release, water repellency and anti-microbial properties are now common in apparel. In the past, these properties would only be found in niche products like rainwear or outerwear. This trend is due to the development work carried out by specialty chemical manufacturers. These finishes used in conjunction with the relatively new microfibers that are available have resulted in unique and desirable fabrics for many applications.

Sponging/Decating

A wet or dry shrinkage process that also can soften and relax certain fabrics including rayon, wool, flannel and crepe. Fabric is wound under tension on a perforated cylinder while steam is passed through. This treatment sometimes replaces london shrinking.

London Shrinking

A hot and cold water treatment given to worsted gabardines, tropicals, serges, whipcords and elastiques to obtain definite shrinkage percentages. This process relaxes stresses and strains left in the fabric after manufacturing and provides a supple and mellow hand. The shrunken cloth is refinished after the treatment in preparation for its end use. The greatest characteristic of a particular fabric may be the hand it provides .

Teflon Coating

A stain and water repellant treatment that provides a protective shield against stains and wear while increasing durability and extending the practical life of the fabric. In combination with antimicrobial agents, the fabric is able to resist the growth of bacteria, molds, mildew and fungi.

Examining

When examining your textiles we ask the following questions:

  • Are there loose threads sticking up from the surface or strings hanging freely in only one direction?
  • Are there loose threads breaking?
  • Are there breaks in fragments in the ground fabric?
  • Are there large areas of loss, such as tears or small holes caused by infestation or splits within the textile?
  • Is there discoloration due to staining or fading?

We will supply you with an examining report that will include a breakdown of the specific components of concern, flagging each problematic area for your review.

Laundering & Finishing

Primarily designated for apparel, we can wash your fabric for a flat or distressed finish. Scouring, soft washing and bleaching can add to desired surface effects. A finish after contributes much to the feel or hand of a fabric. Innovative face finishing techniques also apply to more traditional fabrics altering or improving wearability and performance. Today there are many new surface treatments for a variety of looks, effects and practicalities.

Tenter Framing

Fabrics that are puckered, wrinkled or creased are framed to remove such problems. This process will heat-set or steam-set the fiber content or weave construction.

Flame Retarding

Fabrics are treated with special chemical agents or finishes to make them retardant or resistant to burning. Today many fabrics achieve this property by using fire retardant fibers built directly into the polymer at the time of production.
